Woman was struck, killed blocks from where husband was hit in 2016
A 63-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car on Wednesday night, blocks away from where her husband was hit and killed five years ago.
Claire E. Weissmeyer Grossmann, of the Aspen Hill neighborhood of Silver Spring, was killed crossing Georgia Avenue near Rippling Brook Drive. [WTOP]
Vaccine hunters hold pop-up clinic
The Vaccine Hunters group has gone from “hunters” to providers.
Working with Holy Cross Health, the group hold its first vaccine pop-up clinic two weeks ago at Washington Spanish Bilingual SDA Church in Silver Spring. [WUSA]

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department, working in coordination with Postal Inspectors with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), have arrested and charged
David Louis Walton, age 31, of an unconfirmed address, with the February 2 armed robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier in Aspen Hill.

Investigators continue to look into the possibility that Walton was involved in other similar robberies of mail carriers in the area.
On February 2, at approximately 10:50 a.m., 4th District officers and USPIS postal inspectors responded to the area of Elm Tree Lane and Elm Tree Court for the report of an armed robbery that just occurred.

Montgomery County police have charged a man with robbing a mail carrier in Aspen Hill this year.
David Louis Walton, 31, went up to a mail carrier around 10:50 a.m. on Feb. 2 in the area of Elm Tree Lane and Elm Tree Court and threatened him with a handgun, police said in a press release on Friday.
Walton demanded “United States Postal Service property,” and the carrier gave it to him, police said.
Montgomery County detectives and U.S. Postal Service inspectors investigated. A county officer determined Walton was the robber through fingerprints recovered from the scene, police said.

The Montgomery County Department of Police is asking for your help in locating an Aspen Hill area man with dementia last seen on Wednesday.
A Silver Alert has been activated for 79-year-old Thomas Leroy Pounds.
According to police, Pounds had spoken to a family member from his home on Hammersmith Circle Wednesday just before 10:30 a.m. His whereabouts since that time are unknown.
Cicadas Already Digging Out, Their Appearance is Imminent
The cicadas that have been living underground in total darkness throughout the county for the past 17 years are expected to make their aboveground debut next week although a few already have surfaced.
This cicada pictured on the right was anxious and is already creeping around a backyard in Silver Spring.
Like clockwork, they Brood X (the X is for the Roman numeral 10) began digging their way to the surface, preparing to find a mate and make a nest for their eggs, all in the short span of two to four weeks, according to Clarence Hickey, an Aspen Hill resident who has loved these insects since he first learned about them.
