Thousands of Indians are rushing to join a volunteer effort to save lives from a devastating wave of Covid-19 infections, as a more contagious strain of the virus spreads.
Record rates of infection have overwhelmed hospitals, leading to horrific scenes as wards run out of oxygen, leaving patients to die while waiting for assistance.

For over a week, city after city has reported shortages of life-saving medicine and hospital beds as hundreds of patients gasped for breath outside overwhelmed clinics.
Some people, along with members of the Congress, protested at the district hospital in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, alleging that five members of their families, who were undergoing treatment for coronavirus, died due to lack of oxygen supply there. These deaths were reported at the hospital located in Madhav Nagar on Wednesday night. However, talking to PTI, district collector Ashish Singh said there was no problem of oxygen supply at the facility. There were 132 coronavirus patients in the hospital and 80 per cent of them are on oxygen support, he added. There certainly is a shortage of oxygen supply, but we are making it available from different sources, he admitted.

Mr Morrison on Friday said that that the government is seeking advice from the medical expert panel on preconditions that are needed to be fulfilled in order to reopen Australia’s international borders, to allow vaccinated people to travel overseas and return without having to go into hotel quarantine.
“That will be a major change and to extent to which Australians returning from overseas who have had recognised vaccines also approved here in Australia with appropriate accreditation can return to Australia on that same basis and to enable potentially down the track travel from low-risk countries with similar vaccine arrangements, he said.

The development comes after a report published in a newsaper claimed that three patients in Sagar and one in Khargone died for want of oxygen in the last 24 hours.

JAMMU, Apr 5: Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu is going to organize 3rd Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL) for Under-19 boys on the pattern of IPL in collaboration with senior cricketers of Jammu & KC Sports Club Jammu from April 18.
The league will be organized under the guidance of Police Officers and the reputed cricketers of the J&K. The national players from UT along with top India players have confirmed their participation in the event. The league shall be played on ‘Round Robin Basis’ and each team will play six league matches in the first round and the top four teams shall qualify for the semi-final stage.
