There may be no greater contemporary champion of classic country music than Marty Stuart. Growing up, he was obsessed with country music and began playing mandolin as a child. The five time Grammy winner was in Lester Flatts’ band at fourteen, playing with him for six years, and then worked with Vasser Clements and Doc Watson. Finally landing in Johnny Cash’s band. Stuart played with Cash until 1985 and married his daughter Cindy.
Stuart’s solo career started slowly with his self titled 1985 release selling slowly despite having a popular single. His label refused to release his followup and around the same time he and Cindy divorced. Marty Stuart left Nashville to return to his native Mississippi to regroup, but in a couple of years returned to restart his career in a far more successful way.
Watauga County, town of Boone bedecked in blue to show support for fallen deputies
Funeral services announced for fallen Watauga Co. deputies By David Whisenant | May 3, 2021 at 4:13 PM EDT - Updated May 3 at 5:51 PM
BOONE, N.C. (WBTV) - The pain of the loss of Watauga County deputies Logan Fox and Christopher Ward is being felt today and this week throughout Watauga County. In Boone there are reminders everywhere in the form of blue ribbons and signs to show support for law enforcement.
Nine miles outside of Boone on Highway 421 there’s tribute by the side of the road that includes a large picture Fox and Ward. In quaint but busy downtown Boone along King Street, the blue ribbons adorn the doors of most businesses and offices.
The Martha s Vineyard Times
Steve Rogers, also known as “Lens,” passed away recently at his home near Winter Park, Fla.
A musician, photographer, and sailor, we have known him since 1966, when we met on Beacon Hill in Boston. Steve studied to be a veterinarian, but turned to music, forming a band called the Overwhelming Minority, and studied with Doc Watson in Provincetown. One album was produced, and many gigs were played in the ’70s. Steve played banjo and guitar, and loved his Martins, which he played and traded.
An outgoing, irreverent, creative person, he was born in 1946 in Fairhaven, and will be missed. His love of animals was a constant. Steve had resided on Martha’s Vineyard since around 1995, and worked for a long time as building manager for Larry Levine in Vineyard Haven. He is survived by his dog, Jake, his many Island friends, and his brother, Cole Blodgett.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Poor Naomi Wise: spurned by her lover, fished lifeless from a river, the crime of her North Carolina murder unpunished.
The story of her violent end in the spring of 1807 has been told and retold millions of times through one of America’s best-known folk songs, with varying themes. Was she killed by the father of her unborn child so that he wouldn’t have to marry her or support the baby? Was she trying to extort money from a man to raise a child that wasn’t his?
