The Watauga County and High Country community said their final goodbyes to two sheriff’s deputies who were killed last week after responding to a welfare check at a residence.
Funeral services were held on Thursday for Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox at the Appalachian State Holmes Convention Center in Boone where hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects.

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - The Watauga County community is mourning.
They lost two of their first responders who were killed last week while responding to a call.
Mount Vernon Baptist Church was used last Wednesday as a staging area during an hours-long standoff that ended with two Watauga County deputies dead.
Sgt. Chris Ward and Deputy Logan Fox died after they were shot responding to a welfare check near Boone last week.
