Under 40 and wanting a Covid jab? Isle of Wight NHS has some good news for you
News OnTheWight has been pursuing this for three weeks – happily for those wanting a jab, there seems to be some light ahead
Three weeks ago
As the weeks have gone by, more age groups have been invited to book a jab, but many are finding it impossible to get one on the Isle of Wight. Some have travelled to Portsmouth, others have had no choice but to wait.
It’s been widely recognised that with the help of a strong army of volunteers, the clinical team at the Riverside Vaccination Centre are doing a fantastic job of vaccinating thousands of people each week, but can only work with what they have got.
It comes after some were turned away from the Riverside Centre. However one person who contacted the County Press was turned away from their appointment, because the Oxford AstraZeneca jab is not being administered to that age group and is the only vaccine available at the centre
The Riverside Centre in Newport is an Oxford AstraZeneca hub. There are problems with storing the alternative Pfizer vaccine in the community, so it is only available at specific locations. Alison Smith, Managing Director for Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight CCG, said: We are following the national JCVI guidelines when offering COVID-19 vaccinations to people on the Isle of Wight.
Isle of Wight Covid-19 appointments available at Riverside
Some have had difficulty getting an appointment at the Covid-19 vaccination centre in Newport, but Solent NHS Trust say a number are now available
A number of vaccination appointments are currently available for residents who are eligible at the Riverside Vaccination Centre in Newport on the Isle of Wight, including those who are 45 years and over.
Take-up of the vaccine has been exceptionally strong; five out of six people in the first nine priority groups have already chosen to take up the offer. This offer remains on the table, so if you are in these groups and haven’t take it up yet, there is still time.
