Joseph Gunning and Farouk Abdul, both 21, were sentenced to a total of 17-and-a-half years at Oxford Crown Court after admitting their part in a robbery at a house in Little Bury, Blackbird Leys, last year. The men, who were part of a gang that armed themselves with a knife and a sawn-off shotgun, thought they were raiding a drugs den. They were wrong. It was actually home to a mum and her four children. She was threatened at the point of the imitation firearm and the family was saved thanks to the ‘ferocious’ barking of their terrier.

Men in balaclavas attempt to break into homes in Oxford

THREE men wearing balaclavas attempted to break into several homes. The incidents happened between 8pm and 8.30pm on Monday May 10 to several homes on Arlington Drive, Fairfax Road and Rippington Drive, Marston. The men are believed to have travelled through the back gardens of multiple properties bordering the Exeter Sports ground and later exited into the field near Fairfax Avenue. However, nothing was stolen. The first offender is described as a black man, in his twenties and athletic build. He was wearing a black balaclava and blue latex gloves. The second offender is described as a black man, in his twenties. He was also wearing a black balaclava and red gloves.

Police appeal following robbery in Broad Oak Park in Oxford

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for CCTV footage and images of the robbery. Between 6pm and 6.20pm on Saturday February 6, two 18-year-old men were approached by a man in Broad Oak Park, adjacent to the Eastern Bypass Road in Wood Farm, Oxford. The offender threatened the victims with a knife, making a stabbing movement towards one of them before stealing a black Adidas shoulder bag. The victims were not injured in the incident. The offender is described as a white man, aged in his early twenties, between 5ft 11ins and 6ft 3ins tall and of a slim build wearing dark clothing.
