The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams, says food crisis is imminent in the South-West region of Nigeria due to the onslaught on farmers by Fulani herdsmen.
According to him, farmers in attack-prone areas have stopped going to their farms for fear of being assailed by suspected herders.
“They have discouraged Yoruba people from farming now and if care is not taken within one year, there will be famine in Yorubaland,” Adams said on Wednesday while featuring on a Channels TV programme.
The chieftain described the situation in the South-West as “a serious invasion”, adding that drastic measures must be taken quickly to stop the ugly trend.

The chieftain described the situation in the South-West as “a serious invasion”, adding that drastic measures must be taken quickly to stop the ugly trend.
“We have been seriously infiltrated by Fulani herdsmen. Most of the reserved forests have been taken over by the Fulani herdsmen and a lot of ugly things are happening from those places. So, all hands must be on the deck to make sure these public incidents are taken care of,” he said.
Says Amotekun must be allowed to function

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams, on Tuesday, expressed worry that some people in the South-West are colluding with Fulani herdsmen to commit crimes such as kidnappings and armed robbery in the region.
He also said that for insecurity to be eradicated from the region, the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun must be allowed to function effectively.
Adams said this on a breakfast show on ARISE Television monitored by
Vanguard.
Expressing worry that some bad elements in the South-West were collaborating with criminal herdsmen, the Yoruba leader said: “Some people pressured me to talk on the happenings in Ibarapa, Ondo State, and other areas in the South-West.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams, has accused his people of always destroying their warriors.
“Yoruba always destroy their warriors at the end of the day. About 78 percent of those that fought for the people, they destroyed them,” Adams lamented.
He stated this in response to the claim that some Yoruba politicians are now calling him a coward and hailing Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, for his recent fight with Fulani herders in Ibarapa, Oyo State.
Igboho had recently issued an ultimatum for Fulani herdsmen in Igangan, Ibarapa area of Oyo State, to vacate the area for allegedly kidnapping, killing, raping and invading farmlands with their cattle. On the expiration of the ultimatum, Igboho and his boys sacked the herdsmen in the area.
