EVERETT, Wash. (AP) A man walking his dog near Silver Lake in Everett was fatally shot by a bystander after acting aggressively toward other people on the sidewalk, according to police.
The man who was shot had been walking his dog on the sidewalk around Silver Lake around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when, with no apparent provocation, he started “yelling and became aggressive towards people walking on the sidewalk around Silver Lake,” including a grandmother and her young granddaughter, police said in a statement released Wednesday.
Several men attempted to intervene, but the dog-walker responded by pepper-spraying and striking them with a metal baton, the Seattle Times reported. One of the men who tried to intervene was armed with a pistol, and shot the dog-walker twice, police spokesman Aaron Snell said.

A man who was shot while walking his dog Tuesday evening at Silver Lake has died following confrontations with others in the area during disputes that he appears to have initiated, authorities said Wednesday.
Investigators have not publicly identified the man, who was in his early 30s and who was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment, Everett police said in a written statement.
Cops are leaving Seattle in droves.
Jason Rantz of KTTH radio in Seattle reports that the police brain drain continues apace with 66 cops giving notice of their leave so far. A total of 100 police officers are expected to flee the approximately 1,200-person force by the end of May. Rantz says that several sources verified the numbers, although the city of Seattle hasn’t yet officially divulged them.
Though the city has not yet officially released staffing numbers, officials have expressed significant concern publicly and privately about the staffing situation. The city does not have enough officers to safely protect our neighborhoods or respond to emergencies.
