A new laboratory has opened in central London Halo Building (part of MedCity) which can process 10,000 Covid tests a day.
The 500m2 testing facility was led by KB Architects working with fit-out company Portview and run by clinical provider Health Services Laboratories (HSL).
MedCity was established in 2014 by the London mayor in collaboration with King’s College London, Imperial and University College London (UCL) in an attempt to drive growth in the medical sector for the UK. The redesigned space will be run in partnership with UCL.
The laboratory is located on the ninth floor of the ten-storey building. Both KB Architects and Portview had recently finished work on a cervical screening lab on the floor below.

BELFAST fit-out firm Portview has completed work on a fast-tracked new Covid-19 test lab in central London in less than three months.
Located in the Halo Building in Kings Cross, the 500 sqm testing facility will be utilised by pathology provider, Health Services Laboratories (HSL) in partnership with University College London (UCL) to process 10,000 covid tests a day.
Portview said it had “worked tirelessly” to complete the project ahead of time, operating a 24/7 site and doubling factory shifts to produce the joinery such as laboratory benching and sink units.

Test and Trace succeeded in reaching 84.9% of people who tested positive and 96% of their contacts

New lab partnership with Queen Mary University further boosts capacity
NHS Test and Trace is successfully reaching more people than ever before, despite the anticipated challenges of operating over the festive period. In total during the week of 24 to 30 December, 684,747 people who had tested positive, and their contacts, were reached and told to self-isolate, many of whom might otherwise have unknowingly spread the virus to their loved ones. This is an increase of 124,126 compared with the previous week.
