Here s what you need to know today: Interior officially restores bison range lands The U.S. Department of Interior announced that the lands that contain the National Bison Range have officially been put into trust for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation in Montana. “The establishment of the National Bison Range was an historic use of lands to preserve wildlife, but we must also acknowledge that this act reduced the Salish and Kootenai peoples’ homeland by thousands of acres,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary – Indian Affairs Bryan Newland. “The return of these lands back to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes is truly a significant milestone in their relationship with the Interior Department and the United States.”

Inaugural Projects for Progress recipients announced Awardees include three Penn teams that will help address health care, education, and environmental justice, respectively, in Philadelphia. The University announced Friday its inaugural Projects for Progress prize recipients, which include three teams of Penn students, faculty, and staff. The teams, awarded up to $100,000 each to support their initiatives, all enhance and promote equity and inclusion in Philadelphia by addressing health care, education, and environmental justice, respectively. Established by President Amy Gutmannlast summer, and managed by the new Office of Social Equity & Community, Projects for Progress are meant to build on Penn’s longstanding commitment to social justice and civic engagement in Philadelphia.

The event recognized the triumph and perseverance of these 45 new Elon graduates as they completed their academic and clinical work with the added challenge of learning and practicing health care during a global pandemic. In her commencement address, Dean Gail Jensen from the Graduate School and College of Professional Studies at Creighton University encouraged the new graduates to develop habits of not just the head and the hand, but of the heart.
