Keiro Awards Grants to 32 Organizations to Address Social Isolation During Pandemic

Keiro on April 6 announced the recipients of its 2020-2021 Grants Program cycle, awarding a total of nearly $248,000 in funds to support 32 nonprofit organizations in reducing social isolation with a focus on outreach to Japanese American and Japanese older adults and caregivers in Southern California.
“With the pandemic, the issue of social isolation has become even more apparent and a significant threat to the well-being of our older adults and caregivers in the community,” said Gene S. Kanamori, president and CEO of Keiro. “Keiro is fortunate to be able to support organizations taking proactive steps to outreach to those who may be at risk for this and support the overall health of those most vulnerable in our community.”

ANAHEIM Boy Scouts of America Troop 578, chartered by the Orange County Buddhist Church (OCBC) in Anaheim, is proud to announce six scouts who recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
On Nov. 7, 2020, Earl Chandler King Takeuchi, Jin Swun, Matthew Maeshiro, Kyle Hiromichi Noda, Kyle Kazuo Eng, and Kyle Wu were recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor. Due to COVID-19, the ceremony was held as a drive-in celebration attended by their families, friends, and fellow troop members. The ceremony included an inspirational speech by former scoutmaster Dr. John Nishimoto.

Paul Goodman was 25 years old in 2016 and having the time of his life working as a camera operator for high-octane shows like the Discovery Channel’s “Whale Wars,” when the first signs of trouble struck.
That summer, the guy who’d logged more than 100 days of high seas adventures with a crew chasing ships in Antarctica, China and across the equator began to get inexplicably tired and felt under the weather. It was like a bad cold that wouldn’t go away.
When he suddenly went blind in one eye, he called his primary care physician, who told him to come in for some tests. His parents were at his side when Goodman received the frightening diagnosis.
