National Apple Pie Day: Tips To Make The Perfect Dessert
05/13/21 AT 7:41 AM
Apple pie is one of America s favorite desserts, even though it isn t American at all. In fact, we did not even have apples until the arrival of European settlers.
Whatever may be the case, it didn t take much for apple pie to become a staple, so much so that America’s first cookbook, American Cookery by Amelia Simmons, published in 1796, included two recipes for the fruit-based dessert, says Southern Living.
On May 13, as we celebrate National Apple Pie Day, here are some tips that can help us whip up the perfect apple pie.
An Eye for Beauty
In this episode of Weekends with Yankee, Co-host Amy Traverso heads to Boylston, Massachusetts, home to Tower Hill Botanic Garden. Run by one of the oldest horticultural societies in America, Amy tours the extensive grounds and the often-overlooked beauty of late fall s native New England plants. Heading north to Woodstock New Hamshire, we meet up with Co-host Richard Wiese who shares the award-winning interactive art experience known as Ice Castles. The impressive LED-lit sculptures, 30-foot-tall towers and intricate connection of crevices and tunnels are all carved from ice. Back in her home kitchen, Amy turns Maine blueberries into her own delicious family treat, Blueberry Buckle.
