Mangaluru, Jan 31: Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) arrested a Kasaragod based smuggler on his arrival from Dubai and seized from him gold worth Rs 30 lakhs.
Based on intelligence and surveillance, customs sleuths intercepted Mashkoor Kallar who arrived by Air India flight on Saturday night.
During search, the passenger was found to have concealed gold in paste form in his rectum.
Gold weighing 0.587kg of 24k purity and valued at Rs 30 lakhs was seized from him.
Commissioner of Customs, Imamuddin Ahmed, IRS has commended the persistent vigil maintained by the Mangalore Air Customs team lead by Deputy Commissioner Dr Kapil Gade, IRS and officers including Superintendent Preeti Suma,for their consistent efforts for checking smuggling.

Mangaluru, Jan 21: The Maya Gang , which participated in the murder attempt on a police personnel near the New Chitra Junction in the city recently, the police believe, also participated in the firing incident in 2019 in the city. Based on the information they got, the police are investigating the case with zeal.
Two young men had died in the firing incident on December 19, 2019, during the anti CAA protest after the police opened fire. A team of Maya Gang had tried to murder a police personnel on December 16, 2020, as a revenge for the above deaths. The police have arrested eight persons relating to the case.

The police have arrested six more persons in connection with a case of an attempt to murder a head constable near New Chitra Junction here on December 16, 2020.
Head Constable Ganesh Kamath was stabbed by two motorcycle-borne assailants. Then, the police booked a 16-year-boy and arrested Mohammed Nawaz (26), an employee of a chicken shop, in connection with the incident.

MANGALURU: Mangaluru city police have arrested six more persons of ‘Maya gang’ for conspiring to attack police personnel as a revenge for the 2019 Golibar, where two persons were killed and several injured during anti CAA/NRC protest.
Investigation also revealed the gang made a minor to consume tablets used for treating insomnia before committing crime. One of the accused is working in a medical shop and had access to scheduled ‘H’ drugs that cannot be sold without prescription. Two persons including a minor were arrested a few days after the incident.
It took place around 11.20am, on December 16, 2020, near New Chitra Talkies. Head police constable Ganesh Kamath was assaulted.
