Author of the article: Beth Wilkins Publishing date: Jul 05, 2021  •  6 hours ago  •  6 minute read  •  • IMG 0953 – Two horses hang out at fence-line of Henderson Barn on River Lot 5, Shaftesbury Trail, a short distance west of Shaftesbury Ferry. Carm Ellis, in Barns of the North Peace, writes the land reverted to the Crown to become entitled land. It changed hands several times and was bought by Jack (John) Henderson circa. 1938. “It is said that the log work was done by Harry (The Swede) Anderson in 1941 or 1942.” Ellis notes: “At the time, the Dunvegan Trail passed between Indian Reserve 151G and River Lot 5.” Photo by SUPPLIED

Author of the article: Beth Wilkins Publishing date: Jun 28, 2021  •  15 hours ago  •  6 minute read  •  • IMG 1501 – Although the life of a surveyor was not always an easy one, there were times for recreation – not all work and no play. In this photograph of an ALS Weir Album photograph from Judy Lamour’s Laying Down the Lines: A History of Land Surveying in Alberta, we see a surveying crew making music. Photo by SUPPLIED Article content We were reminded in the previous Ponderings of the 1905 addition of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan to Canadian Confederation. They were the eighth and ninth provinces do so, and among the last to be surveyed.

Photo by SUPPLIED Article content The last few Ponderings made us aware of the Tomkins family – Peter Tomkins Sr., Peter Tomkins Jr., and his son Charles (Checker) Tomkins and their contribution to Canadian and Alberta history for which we all are the beneficiaries.
