a fast moving wave of huge cyberattacks has swept the globe affecting computers in thousands of locations. it s thought the hackers used tools developed by the us national security agency, and were leaked online last month. users have found themselves locked by a programme that demands a $300 payment to restore their access. there have been reports of infections in 99 countries. britain s national health service was one of those hit. hospitals and doctors surgeries were forced to turn away patients and cancel appointments. a number of spanish firms, including telecoms giant telefonica, suffered from the outbreak. there were reports that staff at the firms were told to turn off their computers. russia was also hit. the interior ministry there said it had localised the virus . our technology correspondent rory cellanjones has more. it looked, at first, like an attackjust on hospitals in the uk, but it s now becoming clear that this malicious software has run riot around the w
