Massachusetts State Police plan to respond to protest activity

A spokesperson from the department said the following: “The Massachusetts State Police continue to monitor developments related to protest activity in Washington D.C. as well as planned demonstrations in our state, and will be prepared to ensure that any protestors in our areas of jurisdiction are able to freely express their right to demonstrate provided they do so peacefully and with respect for the rights, safety, and property of others. At this time we are not aware of any expectation of violence in Massachusetts tonight; we continue to monitor developments and will be prepared for any contingencies.” The department noted that they do not disclose any specific personnel strength for any operation.

One killed in off-roading accident in Burrillville

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) – Burrillville police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a Massachusetts man on Sunday. Burrillville Chief of Police Colonel Stephen Lynch said officers responded to the sand pits area of Munyon Trail in Burrillville for a report of a Jeep that had crashed. Police found a 2008 Jeep owned and operated by 19-year-old Anthony Pollini of Rockland, Massachusetts, had driven through an off-road sand hill in the area. Burrillville police said one of the two adult passengers fell from the Jeep when it rolled over on the hill.  This passenger, now identified as 29-year-old Jose Zuniga also from Massachusetts, sustained serious injuries from the fall and the rollover.

Police investigating after man was found dead outside of Portsmouth home

December 30, 2020 7:29 pm PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) – Portsmouth police responded to Mare Terrace Wednesday morning for a 65-year-old man who was found dead outside of his home. Portsmouth Deputy Chief Maj. Michael Arnold said the department’s detective division along with Rhode Island State Police and BCI are working together on the investigation. ABC 6 News reached out to investigators Thursday to learn whether or not there are any updates in the investigation. We’re told that police are awaiting the Medical Examiner’s report and cannot yet provide further detail on a potential cause of death. This is an ongoing investigation and will be updated with additional information when it becomes available. 

Cranston police investigating fatal shooting

December 29, 2020 4:45 pm CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Cranston police have arrested a 73-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon. Cranston police officers arrived on scene at 17 B Street for a report of a shooting around 2:40 p.m. When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Paul Zois unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds. Members of the Cranston Fire Department transported Zoice to Rhode Island Hospital before he was pronounced dead. Police said Zoice lived at the B Street home with his mother, aunt, and his mother’s boyfriend.
