LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police announced the arrest of a Lincoln town and court clerk for misappropriation of town funds on Tuesday.
Major John Alfred said in a release that Monique Clauson, 55, of Lincoln, was arrested for unlawful appropriation over $1,000.
In October 2020, the State Police Financial Crimes Unit was contacted by Lincoln Town Administrator T. Joseph Almond, who was concerned about unexplained shortages in the town’s Municipal Court fine payments.
An investigation showed authorities that as the Municipal Court Clerk, Clauson was responsible for collecting traffic court fines.
State Police said Clauson allegedly diverted approximately $69,000 of court funds between 2011 to 2020.

Joseph Wendelken said the department decided to close both Stop & Shop locations, in Pawtucket and Providence.
Wendelken said those who still wanted to get tested were directed to head to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, which is better equipped to handle the volume.
“The demand for testing is a good thing,” Wendelken said in an email. “We want people to get tested. However, the pop-up sites are intended for people who are already at those shopping locations. If people want to go somewhere specifically to get tested, the quickest and most convenient option is to schedule a same-day test through portal.ri.gov. We have thousands of slots open a day, especially at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) announced an update to the state’s school calendar on Monday.
RIDE announced a staggered return of students in January 2021. Students will return on January 7, and no later than January 15.
“I want to thank the district leaders, teachers, staff and families for their dedication this year and this semester particularly,” said Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “It has been a challenging year but an incredible display of our school communities’ dedication to our students’ learning. We are working to ensure that our school leaders have the flexibility to respond to their community needs while planning for a safe return to school in January in classrooms across Rhode Island.”
