Ontario is in the midst of a dangerous, out-of-control third wave that has landed more COVID-19 patients in the ICU at once than ever before, and to say that health experts are less than impressed by the provincial government s response is an understatement. Premier Doug Ford announced a new provincewide shutdown on Thursday afternoon that will see many non-essential businesses shuttered and gathering limits reduced, but doctors working on the front lines of the crisis say these measures will do little to actually address where the majority of transmission is happening.

Press Release: Australian company Star Scientific wins inaugural World Hydrogen Awards

Australian company Star Scientific wins inaugural World Hydrogen Awards Sydney, Australia – 10 March 2021 – Australian hydrogen research and development company Star Scientific has won another award for its HERO® technology, taking out the Sustainable Energy Council’s inaugural World Hydrogen Awards’ Industrial Application category.

Australian invented catalyst may be key to creating a global hydrogen economy

3 February 2021 An Australian developed hydrogen ‘catalyst’ could be the key to shifting the global energy system to hydrogen, with its Australian inventors signing a landmark deal to advise the Philippine government on a potential transition to a green hydrogen economy. Star Scientific has developed an innovative new catalyst material, dubbed the Hydrogen Energy Release Optimizer or HERO, which it says has the ability to convert hydrogen into heat without combustion, and at a very high thermal efficiency. Star Scientific says the catalyst coating has the potential for use in the production of high temperature steam, allowing existing thermal power stations to be retrofitted to run on hydrogen, as well as allowing industrial operations to use hydrogen as an effective source of heat.

Hydrogen potential: Philippines partners with Australian company as it targets energy independence

Offshore wind resources Under the MoU, the parties will investigate ways in which Hero technology can be used to convert existing power assets within the Philippines to zero-emission hydrogen assets, such as retro-fitting existing coal-fired power plants to run on the Hero system powered by green hydrogen. They will also look to explore utilising green hydrogen production in the Philippines using an abundance of offshore wind resources. The parties will also look at the viability of increased distribution of emission-free power by way of a supercritical CO 2 grid network powered by Hero technology. They will also work together to investigate desalination options for both existing and new systems throughout the Philippines through the use of the Hero technology.

DoE taps Australian firm to explore Philippines hydrogen potential

DoE taps Australian firm to explore Philippines’ hydrogen potential BusinessWorld 1/29/2021 © Provided by BusinessWorld The Department of Energy (DoE) and Australian-based research firm Star Scientific Ltd. inked an agreement to study hydrogen as a possible source of power for the country’s energy needs. In a press release on Friday, the DoE said it had signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Star Scientific Limited on Wednesday. Star Scientific is known for its patented Hydrogen Energy Release Optimiser (HERO) technology, which converts hydrogen into heat without burning. The MOU allows the Philippine government and the Australian firm to partner up in studying on how using hydrogen power could help the Philippines achieve energy independence and significantly reduce the country’s carbon dioxide emissions.
