The first-ever class of Heritage Academy Maricopa graduates was recognized for its perseverance at Thursday night’s commencement.
The 25 graduates in blue caps and gowns gathered in the school gymnasium where friends and family sat on bleachers to watch as they accepted their diplomas.
To start the ceremony, the graduates were introduced as they walked from behind a black curtain, many stopping before their classmates to do a quick dance move or take a bow before continuing to their seats to cheers from the audience.

MILFORD The Board of Education approved a series of nine commitments and five goals for city schools for the next five years and, with one exception,was unanimous in its enthusiasm for the list.
Superintendent of Schools Anna Cutaia presented a draft of the commitments to the board. The commitments included ideas such as, “continually growing a learning community rooted in strong, trusting, and dependable relationships,” and “creating and maintaining a safe and secure climate that promotes a supportive academic, social, emotional and physical learning environment.”

The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra (CJRO) performs the best of Count Basie and other world-renowned jazz artists on Sunday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood, CO 80226.
Featuring many of the best jazz musicians in the area, the CJRO will perform a variety of blues, jazz, and Latin classics including Count Basie s Blues in Hoss Flat , Stan Kenton s A Little Minor Blues, Chick Corea s Armando s Rhumba and even Corner Pocket, reimagined as a cha-cha by Drew Zaremba. Critically acclaimed vocalist, Heidi Schmidt will sing Avalon and many other favorites in a concert that will delight every blues and jazz lover.
