Damage to land on Hyde Common | Bournemouth Echo

A MASS of tyre tracks were left behind on Hyde Common causing damage to the land.  The damage was to an area of land which is used as a cricket pitch and also a play area for children at Hyde Primary School is believed to have happened on Christmas Eve or during the early hours of Christmas Day.  Hyde Common is owned by Hampshire County Council and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  The council s executive member for recreation, heritage, countryside and rural affairs, Councillor Edward Heron, said: “I can confirm that the cricket pitch at Hyde Common, land owned by the County Council, was damaged by a vehicle. Our understanding is that this incident took place either on Christmas Eve or the early hours of Christmas Day. 

Approval for retail unit to be turned into tattoo studio

A PLAN to transform an empty shop into a tattoo studio has been given the go-ahead, despite concerns over the loss of a retail site. New Forest District Council’s planning committee approved, subject to conditions, an application by Lovingink Tattoos for a change of use of an A1 retail unit on High Street, Fordingbridge into a tattoo studio. Concerns were raised by Fordingbridge Town Council over the loss of a prime retail site. However, the meeting on December 9 heard it was the officer’s view that it “won’t result in a concentration of non-shopping use that would alter the retail character of the area”.

Police were called just after 7am on Saturday to reports of a collision on the B3078 Roger Penny Way, close to the Fritham junction, involving a white Mercedes van and three donkeys. Organisations in the Forest are reminding drivers animals are on the roads day and night, and after driving over the cattle grids drivers will encounter animals on or crossing the roads, and on roadsides.
