CARLISLE College has been nominated for an award in this year’s FE Week & AELP Apprenticeship Awards 2021. The college has been shortlisted for the ‘Promoting Apprenticeships Campaign of the Year’ category in light of the success of its 100 in 100 campaign last year. Th scheme set to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on students by helping to develop Apprenticeship placements, securing 100 Apprenticeship Opportunities in 100 Days, between July 1 and October 9 2020. Carlisle College was selected out of 350 entries that applied to the categories, in a virtual event that was hosted by the comedian Rory Bremner earlier this month. 112 employer’s handed out 117 apprenticeships over the course of the scheme, which exceeded the college’s aim of 100 days.

A TRAINING firm is expanding its services after joining a partnership of colleges and other coaching companies in Cumbria. PHX Training, which has centres in Carlisle, Workington, Barrow and others in Lancashire, has joined the Edge, an initiative led by Carlisle College, as a delivery partner. Established in 2013, it supports businesses through the European Social Fund. The firm will deliver the Skills Support for the Workforce contract, commissioned by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, to help employees gain new skills and qualifications. It will also support individuals through funding by the Adult Education Budget. Briony Fawcett, managing director at PHX Training, said: “Helping people to gain new skills and improve their prospects is what we do best, and so we are thrilled to have become a part of the Edge partnership to join forces, share expertise and be able to reach even more people and businesses across Cumbria.
