Why does Pueblo have tunnels  not just in downtown, but also in neighborhoods? What have Puebloans of old produced while living within the town? Why is the community so full of art? These stories and more will be featured in a speaker series in Downtown Pueblo. Gregory Howell, a storyteller and event curator, has created a storyteller speakeasy series that he is bringing to the Senate Bar and Grill in downtown Pueblo, aiming to showcase some of Pueblo s hidden stories in a 15-week series, called The Dig. Howell hopes the series creates a way for community members to dig into Pueblo s history and present.

Kansas AFL-CIO leaders join union protest outside Topeka Frito-Lay

Executives from the state s labor federation turned out Wednesday for the third picket outside Topeka s Frito-Lay plant this year. The protest, which drew executives from Kansas AFL-CIO and other local labor leaders, is likely the last picket union members at Topeka s Frito-Lay plant will hold before taking a vote on whether to accept or reject a recent contract proposal made by the company. If the contract offer doesn t pass, local union members may vote to strike. We re here to support them, said John Nave, executive vice president of Kansas AFL-CIO. These brothers and sisters out here have been dedicated to a company over the years that hasn t treated them well at all. . They carry that company on their backs, and they deserve to be treated fairly at the negotiation table.

Pueblo s Walter s Brewery hosts food truck court kick off event

Nearly two decades ago the extinct Walter’s Brewery was revived bringing back a Pueblo tradition that started in 1889 which today will be celebrated with hometown signature foods and a toast with “The Original” beer.   Walter’s Brewery and Taphouse, 126 Oneida St., kicks off its food truck food court season May 1 with the help of the Stoke Pizza and Steel City Café food trucks. The food trucks will be on site daily and a third food truck will join their ranks on Fridays and Saturdays, according to Gretchen Rode, a Walter’s co-owner.  Now that the COVID restrictions are beginning to loosen, Walter’s is starting a new tradition.
