Three people died and seven were injured when the roof of a factory collapsed at Baba Mukand Singh Nagar here on Monday, officials said. Forty people, mostly labourers, were rescued from the site. Of the injured, the condition of three were stated to be critical, officials said, adding efforts were on to find out where more people were trapped under the debris. The factory owner was lifting the lintel level without permission of the municipal corporation, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma said. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and civic body were undertaking the rescue operations.

Three persons lost their lives, while 106 tested positive for Covid in the district today. Now, the total confirmed cases in the district have gone to 27,473, while the death toll has gone up to 1,034.
Out of the total 106 people who tested positive today, five were teachers and one a healthcare worker. The healthcare worker is a staff nurse in a private hospital. A teacher from Government High School Chak Maafi Khanna Maanupur, one teacher from Government Senior Secondary School Godderwindi Jagraon, two teachers from Edusquare Dugri and a teacher from Joseph Senior Secondary School Dugri Dhandra Road tested positive for the virus.

The Health Department today confirmed 50 cases, including 29 from Ludhiana and 21 from other districts or states. In Ludhiana district, five patients came in contact of positive patients, eight visited OPDs, 13 with influenza-like illness visited the Flu corner. Besides, three patients, including a health care worker, tested positive for the virus.
