Bird flu detected at poultry farm in Punjab’s Ludhiana

Ludhiana: Samples from a poultry farm here tested positive for bird flu, prompting the district authorities to form a committee for a culling exercise and containment operations.
The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, on Friday confirmed bird flu in a poultry farm at Qila Raipur, about 25 km from here.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma said the Punjab government has notified the poultry farm as an infected area.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarkartar Singh has been made the incharge of the committee formed to oversee the culling exercise.
The district administration in Punjab's Ludhiana has initiated a containment protocol after samples from a local poultry farm tested positive for bird flu.

As many as 1,347 persons tested positive for Covid, while 20 lost their lives to the virus in the district in the past 24 hours.
Total active cases have reached 10,316, while 1,451 have lost their lives since March 2020. Active cases in the district were 10,316.
Those who tested positive included four healthcare workers, two pre-operative cases and an undertrial, while tracing of 327 is still to be done.
As many as 16 men and four women lost their life to the deadly virus. They were residents of Jammu Colony, Jagraon, Lohara, Guru Nanak Nagar, Doraha, Sanhewal, Mahajan Nagar, Chandigarh Road, Barewal Road, Prem Vihar, Giaspura, Haibowal Kalan, Tajpur Road, Janta Nagar, Akash Nagar, Pama village, Vikas Nagar and Kailash Nagar.
Authorities say that the owner did not take permission for the construction work.
LUDHIANA: One person died, four others were injured after roof of the third floor of a factory collapsed in Baba Mukand Singh Nagar on Daba road on Monday morning.
The authorities said that four workers were still trapped and efforts were on to rescue them.
Police said that about forty workers were lifting the cemented roof of the third floor of an auto parts factory on when it collapsed. They added that about forty construction workers were trapped under the debris.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma, who along with Ludhiana police commissioner Rakesh Aggarwal visited the spot, told the Times of India that NDRF, SDRF, police, municipal corporation, civil teams were carrying out rescue operations. He added that forty persons were believed to have been trapped under the debris of whom 36 were rescued.
