Thailand To Open Charter To Foreign Flagged Superyachts

By George Bains 04 Mar 2021 Thailand is set to become the latest country in the Asia Pacific region to open up to the charter of foreign flagged superyachts. It has been agreed that foreign-flagged vessels will no longer have to pay VAT on the value of their vessel when entering the country, and it is expected that an official announcement on charters will follow shortly. Under the current arrangements, charters beginning in Thailand must terminate in another country, with many heading from Thailand to Langkawi, Malaysia. The proposed new legislation would allow superyachts to stay and enjoy the immaculate cruising grounds of Thailand, encouraging more owners to station their yachts in the country.

Exploring Italy s Island Gem Procida Aboard M/Y Nafisa

By George Bains 04 Mar 2021 Superyacht charterers are locked in a constant search for the perfect destination. The Italian island of Procida may just tick every box. For sophisticated adventures in the Campania Gulf, the classic Italian superyacht Nafisa is the ideal platform… The typical pastel-coloured small houses are the first thing you notice when you approach her by the sea, painted like this so that when fishermen come back home, they can easily recognize their own house by the sea. Procida, the smallest islands of Campania’s Gulf and the closest to Naples, was named Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2022 thanks to its ‘model for sustainable development based on the culture of the island and its coastline’.

Firetree: The Gender Dimension of…

By Christina Tsangaris 25 Feb 2021 Gender inequality affects people and places the world over, from the corridors of power in London to the cocoa farms of developing countries, where women involved in the production of cocoa normally receive a lower-income than men, with many earning less than the minimum wage. According to the World Economic Forum, it will take 202 years to close the global economic gender pay gap at our current rate of progress, and two centuries is far too long to wait. With over 85 years of experience shared between them, Firetree founders, David Zulman, Martyn O’Dare and Aidan Bishop, were conscious of this disparity when they set out to make their super-premium, single-estate chocolate in 2017. In creating Firetree, the founders aimed to not only produce a first-class tasting chocolate with the best flavours on the market, but also to ensure that all farmers, regardless of gender, are paid a significant premium of up to two to three times the market rate.
