Chennai Air Customs recovers gold worth Rs 2.17 cr swallowed by flyers from UAE, 7 held ANI | Updated: Jan 31, 2021 20:18 IST Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], January 31 (ANI): The Chennai Air Customs has seized 4.15 kg gold worth over Rs 2.17 crore at the airport here and arrested seven people after busting a smuggling racket, in which the passengers were found to have swallowed capsules of gold paste wrapped with polythene/rubber cover. In a press release on Sunday, the Chennai Customs revealed that the passengers were intercepted at the exit by Air Intelligence Unit officers on suspicion of carrying gold after they had arrived from Dubai and Sharjah on January 22.

Express News Service BENGALURU: Eight passengers on board an Air India Express flight which reached the Kempegowda International Airport from Dubai on Wednesday (January 27) were held for smuggling cigarette sticks, gold cut pieces as well as coins, cosmetics and beauty soaps in their check-in baggage. The total value of the items seized was slightly over Rs 38 lakh.  The seizure was made by the Air Intelligence Unit of the Airport Customs department around 4 pm after the flight IX 1246 touched base here. All of them were natives of Kasargod in Kerala and appeared to be operating as a group, said a senior official.

Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, Jan 29 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked two former customs officials and five other private persons in connection with a gold smuggling case in Ahmedabad, the agency said on Friday. The agency has also conducted raids earlier this week at the residential and official premises of the accused. The CBI registered the case on a complaint from Principal Commissioner of Customs, Ahmedabad against the five private persons and two Superintendents of Customs, Air Intelligence Unit, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

It was alleged that some unscrupulous persons were indulged in smuggling of gold in the form of a paste and also 24-carat pure gold jewellery from abroad through SVP International Airport by engaging carriers, the agency said.
