(ABC 6 News) - People are honoring a man from Racine, Minn., for what he did decades ago. Captain Joyce Johnson served in World War II.
But he was never awarded his medals of service until Tuesday at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.
A lot of it is a mystery but loved ones note a fire destroyed the building storing the records of veterans including Captain Johnson s.
His medals are 77 years long overdue but he finally got them with help from someone in town.
If sacrifice and courage had a face, you d be looking at Captain Joyce Johnson. Decades after serving in World War II, he s just now getting his proper recognition.
