Utica, N.Y. - A big Welcome Back sign on the outside of Albany Elementary School in Utica said it all on Monday as elementary students throughout the district went back to in-person learning for the first time in nearly a year.
Albany Elementary School 5th grade teacher Jessica Wilks says the smiles on kids faces Monday morning meant the world to everyone who works in the district, The smiles this morning, I can see them smiling through their masks walking through them down the hall, it was amazing, it was completely refreshing.

UTICA, NY - Parents, teachers, and students from Albany Elementary School in Utica came together Monday to say goodbye to a beloved educator.
The teachers and parents organized a parade outside the school to serenade principal Tania Kalavazoff, who is retiring after fourteen years on the job.
Students brought signs and drivers honked their horns to show appreciation for her years of dedication and gave Kalavazoff the best early Christmas present she could ask for.
