Speaking during the meeting, Gould and O’Neill commended the valuable efforts of the AFLPM, which they acknowledged, had been working relentlessly on peacebuilding initiatives within Africa.
Dr Al-Makura in a statement issued yesterday said the Canadian officials expressed the interest of the Government of Canada in deepening its cooperation with the AFLPM in promoting women, peace, and security in Africa.
In her opening remarks, Dr Al Makura highlighted women’s role in peacebuilding; the systemic barriers often faced by women in conflict settings and how Canada could further support the goals of the AFLPM on the continent.
“Through the years, the AFLPM has leveraged its privilege and access to power to foster diplomatic and political relationships towards achieving peace, with a particular focus on the needs of the women and children of Africa.

The much-awaited congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), earlier scheduled to commence July 10, may not hold, as the leadership of the party has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demanding the immediate postponement of the exercise
In the letter dated July 6, 2021, with reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/021/39, and addressed to Chairman of the electoral body, the ruling party did not state any reason for the indefinite postponement of the congresses.
But National Secretary of APC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, said the party did not intend a postponement of the congresses but to cure legal landmines since the earlier date was not sacrosanct.

The prominent citizens demanded that challenges affecting the region be addressed for the return of peace and safety.
The meeting was convened ahead of the July summit on security being organised by the North Central Peoples’ Forum (NCPF).
NCPF Board of Trustees Chairman, Jeremiah Useni (rtd) presided. The retired Lieutenant General was the Minister in-charge of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Sani Abacha regime.
