The much-awaited congresses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), earlier scheduled to commence July 10, may not hold, as the leadership of the party has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demanding the immediate postponement of the exercise
In the letter dated July 6, 2021, with reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/021/39, and addressed to Chairman of the electoral body, the ruling party did not state any reason for the indefinite postponement of the congresses.
But National Secretary of APC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, said the party did not intend a postponement of the congresses but to cure legal landmines since the earlier date was not sacrosanct.

In clear contravention with the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari recently approved the extension of the tenure of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) single handedly without consultation with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.
Nevertheless, despite the unconstitutional approval of the tenure of the committee, no member of the party was bold enough to speak out because apparently they don’t want to be seen as kicking against the decision of the President who they all adore.

The decision of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to constitute an eight-man committee to review the party’s constitution has stoked a fresh crisis in the rank of its national leaders, THISDAY has learnt.
While a wing of its national leadership accused some governors elected on the platform of pushing the APC into constitutional crisis, others argued that the decision was a ploy by the caretaker committee to seek a fresh six-month extension.
