LEBANON The Lebanon High girls tennis team got its season off to a flying start on Monday, stopping the state runner-up the last time the NHIAA had a Division II tournament.
Kaeley Skakalski won a singles tiebreaker and fought off five match points in her doubles match with partner Keira Hines, giving the D-III Raiders two key points in a 6-3 win over D-II Bow at the Carter Community Building Association courts. Crisi Patel also contributed wins in singles and doubles for Lebanon (1-0). Bow reached the finals of the D-II tourney in 2019, losing to Portsmouth.

Plenty has been said about the politics of the governmentâs latest report on race. Barely any attention has been paid by most of the media to its actual evidence, even from supporters delighted that it has some. âThis report DOES have facts,â cooed Rod Liddle in the Sun, with the same sunny pleasure that a toddler might take from a book having words.
Yet the nature of those facts has barely been scrutinised by journalists. Instead, newspapers on the right have complained about âzealots of wokedomâ (the Express) and their âbaseless abuseâ (the Telegraph) of Tony Sewell, the commissionâs chief. As Matthew Syed wrote in the Sunday Times, âshouldnât this be on the evidence rather than the person who assembled it; shouldnât we play the ball rather than the man?â

WEST CANAAN Don’t tell anyone around the Mascoma High softball team that the offense will be the last thing to come around after a year away from the diamond.
Two days after putting up double digits in a season-opening win at Lebanon, the Royals made it a sweep with a 10-8 victory over the Raiders on Wednesday. Mascoma (2-0) slapped out nine hits and got two-hit performances from four batters two of whom delivered home runs to get the win.
“The girls have shown up this week, stepping up to the plate and filling the holes left by seniors who were touring colleges,” Mascoma coach Chris Thurston said. “Now we are looking forward to next week’s games against Hanover, when the team is back to full strength.”

KEENE, N.H. It took almost two full years, but the Hanover High boys tennis team finally returned to action in a season-opening 9-0 shutout at Keene on Monday afternoon.
Kevin Pillsbury won, 8-0, at No. 3 singles for Hanover. Evan Yang, Alex Rockmore, Alex Stevens, Zhiwen Liu and Zach Pearson all added 8-1 wins. Yang/Rockmore had a dominant 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Pillsbury/Stevens (8-2) and Liu/Pearson (8-4) also won in doubles.
“Getting out the first-match jitters from either having had almost two years without a season or having it be your first varsity match, we stepped it up against a novice Keene squad,” Hanover coach Jarrod Shaheen said.
