In this article, we will look at each position and assess the need going into the draft. The chart below is just for reference. The blue lines represent the play the Niner’s actually got last year on a per snap basis, the orange is the average play around the league, and grey is the projected play for the 2021 season, based on the current roster. The grey is usually higher because it assumes that the starters will take every snap, so if George Kittle takes every snap for the Niners this year, they will look really good at tight end.

Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
The Jaguars already have a serviceable O-Line and a solid lead back. The next best friend for their new franchise QB is a go-to Tight End. While Pitts is a once-in-a-decade talent, Freiermuth may be the more complete TE. Known as “Baby Gronk,” Freiermuth is already an accomplished and willing blocker who also runs good routes, has a great feel for the soft spots in zones and has natural hands. He projects as a player that should have a long, solid career in the NFL.

LAST SEASON: The Niners’ bid to return to the Super Bowl was derailed by a spate of early-season injuries. Edge rusher Nick Bosa went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 2, QB Jimmy Garoppolo missed 10 games with ankle issues, and other key players such as TE George Kittle and CB Richard Sherman also missed significant time as San Francisco stumbled to a third losing season in four years under coach Kyle Shanahan.
FREE AGENCY: The 49ers spent much of the offseason bringing back key pieces with LT Trent Williams the biggest prize to stay. San Francisco also retained versatile FB Kyle Juszczyk, CBs Jason Verrett and K’Waun Williams, NT D.J Jones and S Jaquiski Tartt. The biggest outside additions were C Alex Mack and edge rusher Samson Ebukam. They lost DE Kerry Hyder.
