Abu Dhabi expands retail calendar in tourism recovery push

SHARE Abu Dhabi is expanding its retail calendar with a series of new consumer events, promotions and campaigns in 2021 to boost its tourism industry. Retail Abu Dhabi, a platform of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT), will partner with key stakeholders and international brands to create an exclusive programme for the Abu Dhabi market to promote the emirate’s global appeal and stimulate a post-pandemic recovery, the Abu Dhabi Government Media office (ADGMO) said in a statement on Saturday. The campaign will build on the previous year s events such as the Abu Dhabi Winter Shopping Season, which led to spending worth Dh2.4 billion on Visa cards across participating malls.

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will now be uniquely showcased on TikTok following a new partnership between the emirate’s culture regulator and the social media giant. The Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) announced its partnership with TikTok, including the launch of the Visit Abu Dhabi channel @inabudhabi on TikTok. It has also encouraged TikTok creators to mention Abu Dhabi in their clips using the channel handle. Through the collaboration, the DCT Abu Dhabi aims to engage content creators, and depict the emirate in a creative, authentic manner. In doing so, it hopes to reach audiences around the world, and encourage them to include Abu Dhabi as part of their future travel plans.

Abu Dhabi extends fee exemptions for hotels until June 30

“This initiative is in line with our vision of sustaining and supporting tourism, especially in the exceptional and urgent circumstances that currently face the sector,” Ali Al Shaiba, executive director of the tourism and marketing sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said. “This decision supports partners and stakeholders in revitalising the tourism sector and ensuring that it recovers from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, providing hotel and tourism facilities with the opportunity to develop and improve their experiences and products. The UAE recorded the second-highest occupancy rate in the world after China last year, according to data published on Saturday by the World Tourism Organisation and Emirates Tourism Council .
