CBJ accepts Hurlock property back

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Assembly voted to accept the former Cornerstone property back from Alaska Legacy Partners and are not committing to allowing a youth homeless shelter at that location Alaska Legacy Partner had tried to develop senior housing at the property.  They paid $350,000 to the CBJ. The CBJ later supported another senior housing project with a $2 million grant at Vintage Park that was proposed by Torrey Pines Development. The CBJ will keep the $35,000 down payment from Alaska Legacy Partners. The property is now assessed at $430,000. Tlingit and Haida Regional Housing Authority have indicated an interest in leasing the property for the shelter.

Pandemic and funding issues before Assembly

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Measures related to the pandemic and other matters involving city and borough finances are before the Juneau Assembly during Monday evening s regular meeting. An emergency resolution up for action appropriates $3 Million from the general fund for COVID-19 pandemic emergency response management. Nearly $86,000 in Cares Act funding is included in another emergency appropriation resolution for a grant to Perseverance Theatre to help it offset the economic hardship it has experienced as the result of the pandemic. There s an emergency ordinance up for action that extends the use of face covering in certain indoor settings, on Capital Transit buses, and in certain areas of CBJ facilities open to the public.
