Feb 19 (IANS): Nobel laureate V.S. Naipaul was not being facetious when he described Pakistan as a Criminal Enterprise . It is, therefore, only to be expected that the army of a criminal enterprise behaves like a mercenary army.
Right from the beginning, the Pakistan Army was always ready to serve whoever was the highest bidder. Until the turn of the 20th Century, the Pakistan military functioned as guns for hire for the US, which bestowed the country with billions of dollars in military and economic assistance.
NEW DELHI â Last week as the Intra-Afghan Peace talks were being held in Doha, Taliban leaders, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, suddenly decided to board a flight to Tehran. The visit took place within days of the new U.S. administration taking its guard in Washington. The U.S. capital was already agog with whispers that the new Joe Biden administration was breaking away from key Trump administration hallmarks, the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and re-stablishing ties with Iran.
Iran had earlier bonded with the Obama administration, when Joe Biden was Vice President, resulting in the Iran nuclear deal.

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS): Indias point person on Iran, J.P. Singh has just concluded an important visit to Tehran, signalling that New Delhi is getting set to reboot ties with Iran, riding on the change of guard in Washington.
India is already picking signals that the Trump-era opposition to New Delhi s robust engagement with Iran, may recede, following the arrival of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the US.
During his visit to Tehran, Singh met with key officials in the Hassan Rouhani administration, including Rasoul Mousavi, assistant to Iran s Foreign Minister and Director-General for West Asia in the Foreign Ministry.
