I would be hard pressed to name a musical that takes itself less seriously than “Xanadu,” which opened Thursday night at the NorShor Theatre. Especially the way director Phillip Fazio and choreographer Amber Burns amped up the silliness.
The quintessential scene of this production comes early when Quinn Lorez and Maddie Schafer as the Muses Melpomene and Calliope rip through “Evil Woman.” While Lorez delivers the big vocals, Schafer channels Kristen Wiig and Cecily Strong at the same time and kills the comic counterpoint.

DULUTH, Minn.- Time to put on your dancing shoes; The Duluth Playhouse kicked off their summer theatre camp series at the NorShor Theatre this week.
The playhouse offers acting and musical theatre camps for different age groups. This week they have groups doing productions of Shrek and Bring It On. All groups will showcase their work in a performance Friday.
“These kids are learning lifelong skills like collaboration and teamwork, and they’re building relationships,” said Artistic Director Amber Burns. “There’s so many things to gain from this experience.”
There will be six more weeks of summer camps going through August. Each week will have new productions in line for kids to perform. If your kids love to act, sing, and dance, check out their website on how to sign up.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. â In a windowless room, under fluorescent lights, Edward Sisco thinks about one question.
âHow do we get them a rapid answer in a safe manner?â he asked.
Sisco is a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST, located on a sprawling, federal scientific campus in Maryland. Inside these labs, scientists and researchers study drugs â specifically opioids â and how they could potentially interact with law enforcement, who may encounter them while working out in the field.

We’re talking about the Duluth Playhouse. They’ll be performing a production of
Charlotte’s Web on stage at The Depot starting the last weekend of February.
Masks will become part of the costumes. The audience will be limited at 25 percent capacity and spaced out throughout the theater. And as you can imagine everybody at the playhouse is ready to finally perform in front of a live audience.
“Having that audience is such a big part of live theater. Actors on stage love seeing how the audience is going to react. Especially in the theater where we have a lot of first timers,” said Amber Burns, Artistic Director for the Duluth Playhouse Family Theater.
