They have appealed to the public to “be sensible and stay safe”. One Whitehaven landlady was delighted to welcome back customers but has had to put someone out every day since reopening as a result of them not adhering to the rules of lockdown. Copeland Police issued a statement saying: “It’s been a busy weekend for the Copeland Proactive Team who have dealt with a number of incidents of public order following the ease of lockdown restrictions in the pubs. “It’s nice to se businesses back open but can we remind people to be sensible and stay safe when drinking.”

To the Editor:
Hello, my name is Amber Sullivan and I am announcing my candidacy for a seat on the Madrid Waddington School Board of Education. My desire to serve has grown over the years and contributing as a member of the school board has been a personal goal of mine for some time.
I will graduate this May with my Master’s in Social Work. I have been employed by St. Lawrence County since 2013. I am a 2010 graduate of St. Lawrence County Leadership Institute, and SUNY Empire with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. In the past, I have volunteered my time as coach for my son’s little league team. Currently, I volunteer on The Youth Advisory Board for St. Lawrence County, and as a Board of Director for Seaway Valley Prevention Council.
HOSPITALITY venues across Cumbria will have been hoping for better weather over the bank holiday weekend. Following months of lockdown, last weekend was the first three-day weekend since pubs and bars were able to serve alcohol outside. However, the weather was not on side, with wind and rain sweeping across the county. At one popular venue in Whitehaven, the poor weather meant that only a few tables could be open, at a time when capacity is already severely reduced. Amber Sullivan, landlady at the Whittington Cat, said it had been extremely difficult since reopening. She is hoping that customers return in good numbers once the pub is allowed to serve drinks indoors later this month.
