JOHANNESBURG, June 3 (Xinhua) South African scientists has developed AwezaMed app which can translate English medical messages into 11 official languages of the country. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation believed it would help save lives in the fight of combating COVID-19.
The AwezaMed app was developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and is a speech recognition, text-to-speech and machine translation. It has a database of over 1,800 questions, reassurances, explanations, patient responses, with key vocabulary curated through a vigorous refinement process with the oversight of a team of medical professionals.
