White Sox closer Liam Hendriks named AL Reliever of Month

John Antonoff/For the Sun-Times CLEVELAND White Sox closer Liam Hendriks was named American League Reliever of the Month for May on Wednesday, the right-hander’s third career monthly honor. Hendriks posted a 0.00 ERA and was eight-for-eight in save opportunities in May. He struck out 19 over 11 2⁄ 3 innings covering 13 appearances and led the AL in saves. Signed to a $54 million deal in the offseason, Hendriks won monthly awards in each of the last two seasons with Oakland. He is the second Sox reliever to win the honor, following Bobby Jenks in June 2006 and June 2010. Related In May, Hendriks earned saves in his last four appearances. He allowed two unearned runs, two extra base hits and two walks and hasn’t allowed a hit and while walking one with 10 strikeouts over his last 16 batters faced.

White Sox to sign Liam Hendriks to multiyear deal?

Originally posted on MLB Trade Rumors  |  By Connor Byrne  |  Last updated 1/11/21 The White Sox have reached an agreement with free-agent reliever Liam Hendriks, pending a physical, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports. It’s a three-year, $54 million guarantee with a club option for a fourth season, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Both the option and buyout are worth $15 million, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who adds that the White Sox would be able to pay the buyout over multiple years. Hendriks is a client of ALIGND Sports Agency. So far, this is the largest guarantee given to any free agent during what has been a slow-moving offseason. It comes as a surprise considering how the winter opened for relievers, as Cleveland waived star closer Brad Hand in lieu of paying him a $10 million option for 2021 and no other team claimed him. After that, it would have been easy expect relievers to continue faring somewhat poorly this offseason,
