NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The Old University Building near Washington Square is a towering presence, both physically and historically.
It was the site of a Civil War Hospital at one time,â said Betty Shinn, president of the Federation of Womenâs Clubs.
A second story museum tells visitors all about it, if they can climb the steep, circular stairs.
âMany of us cannot go upstairs to the museum for health reasons,â Shinn said.
But just about everyone can ride an elevator and the proposed elevator addition will not bother the integrity of the historical value of the building at all. The actual elevator would be located in the annex. Also needed is a handicap accessible restroom to supplement the currently inadequate sole restroom on-site.
