New Delhi, April 28 : Janardhan Singh Gehlot, a former president of Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), died in Jaipur on Wednesday.
The sports administrator, who was in his 80s, is survived by wife and two sons.
Gehlot was the founder president of the International Kabaddi Federation. He was also president of the AKFI for 28 years. But after he became life president of the AKFI in 2013, the sport was mired in controversy.
Kabaddi has benefitted from the professional run league launched in 2014 but the federation had to battle court cases. In 2018, the Delhi High Court removed Gehlot as life president of the AKFI.
IOA vice-president Janardhan Singh Gehlot dies
New Delhi, Apr 28: Indian Olympic Association vice-president Janardhan Singh Gehlot died in Jaipur today after prolonged illness.
Gehlot, a former Rajasthan minister, was also the founder president of International Kabaddi Federation. He was in his 70s.
He was the head of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India for 28 years till 2013. He was also serving as the president of the Rajasthan Olympic Association at the time of his death.
“On behalf of IOA family, our heartfelt condolences to Gehlot family on the sad and untimely demise of IOA vice president and president of Rajasthan Olympic association Janardhan Singh Gehlot,” IOA President Narinder Batra said in a statement.
Star India bags Pro Kabaddi media rights for five seasons

Mumbai: Star India has bagged the media rights for five seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) between 2021 and 2025 following an online auction on Saturday.
Mashal Sports offered the rights through an open tender process, following which Star India retained the ‘Consolidated Rights Package’ on offer at an average annual value, which is double of last season’s rights fee.
Mashal Sports CEO and PKL commissioner Anupam Goswami said, “Mashal along with its supporters and partners, including AKFI (Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India), our players, franchises and media rights partner, have been able to create a strong media asset for our fans in the form of the PKL.”
