Azerbaijan Embassy in Qatar donates books to QNL

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Qatar donated 70 titles in English and Arabic recently to Qatar National Library (QNL). Spanning a variety of subjects, the books aim to deepen public knowledge surrounding the rich history and culture of Azerbaijan. His Excellency Rashad Ismayilov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar, was welcomed by His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State of Qatar and President of QNL, and Abeer Al Kuwari, Director of Research and Learning Services at the Library. His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State of Qatar and President of QNL said, “This donation is a prime example of the Library’s continued efforts to build cultural bonds across nations, and part of our program to exchange books of all kinds with libraries around the world.

Fire Station and VCUarts Qatar begin women-led lecture series

 01 Mar 2021 - 9:31 The Peninsula Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence and the Painting and Printmaking Department at VCUarts Qatar have kicked off a virtual lecture series titled ‘Decolonizing Art Narratives: Arab Women Artists Today’ in which 14 women artists are coming together to explore gender, politics, colonialism, culture and identity. The year-long academic lecture series features a dynamic group of Arab female artists and practitioners across various disciplines and locales in the Middle East who will revisit and consider how best to reshape existing narratives.  Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director, Fire Station, said: “The Fire Station is honoured to partner with VCUarts Qatar to present this pertinent lecture series. The series provides a platform for some of the region’s most inspirational female artists to collectively discuss what it means to be an artist in the context of modern societal norms and challenges.”

Fire Station launches Alumni Residency Programme  15 Feb 2021 - 14:46 The Peninsula Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence is currently running the first edition of its Alumni Residency programme. The initiative brings together artists from previous residency years to collaborate and expand their repertoire. The residency began on 15 January and runs until 15 July. The programme ensures the Fire Station’s ongoing connection to its alumni by providing workspaces, resources, and networking opportunities with visiting artists, curators and arts professionals. Alanoud Al-Buainain, Deputy Director of Programmes & Exhibitions, Fire Station, said: “Our newly introduced Alumni Residency is a great addition that complements our local and international residency programmes. Over the next few months, we look forward to providing a platform for participating artists to develop their practice.”
