Firework displays back after COVID-19 hiatus

It s the first time in two years that sparks of red, white and blue lit up the night sky above Abington Heights Middle School in celebration of America s independence. We had to watch a lot of things this spring and make sure we were going to be able to do this, but things started to turn around with the vaccines and the Covid rates, so we decided to go, and here we are, said John Hambrose, of the Abington Rotary Club and Firework Committee.
Abington Heights Middle School will be closed for in-person classes beginning Tuesday and lasting through Friday, after a sixth positive case of COVID-19 was reported among students and staff, the district announced Monday.
The school will reopen for hybrid learning Dec. 21, unless contact tracing or additional cases require extending the closure.
Three middle school students and a professional staff member are confirmed positive for the virus since Saturday and are in isolation, according to the district s COVID report. One professional staff member was listed as a suspected case Monday and is in isolation; a support staff/vendor was listed Saturday as having close contact with someone with the virus and is in quarantine.Â
