GUWAHATI: BJP on Saturday lambasted Congress for accusing Modi of not talking about the core issues of Assam during his visit to Sivasagar on Saturday.
Countering Congress, chief spokesperson of the state BJP Rupam Kumar Goswami said, “Instead of criticising PM Modi, they could have shown their strength by staging protests today. But they have failed to do so. Even, the participation of people in the limited protests organized by a few organisations across the state is also poor. They have missed it.”
Talking about the farmers’ condition, Goswami said those protesting at the national capital are not genuine farmers. “They are middlemen. And more importantly, are there farmers only in Punjab and Haryana? Farmers are not protesting anywhere,” he said, claiming that the BJP government under the leadership of PM Modi has taken many initiatives for the welfare of the farmers along with all sections of society.
In his first political rally in the poll-bound state, Shah also took a swipe at the Congress for calling the BJP "communal" and questioned the grand old party s alliance with the Muslim League in Kerala and the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF in Assam, two regional parties that draw their support mostly from Muslims.
Stating that the assembly polls of 2021 is a matter of life and death of people of Assam, Sarma while speaking in a rally in Nalbari said that Badaruddin Ajmal has said, “In Assam there will be the name of Ram and people will continue chanting Rams name. Like Hanuman, BJP workers will ensure that there is no Baburs rule in Assam.”
