Andrew Bennett
In other court news, the prosecution presenting the case against attorney Andrew Bennett did not reach very far in court today when their attempt to submit wire-tapped evidence was struck out by Justice Westmin James on grounds that the U.S. violated Bennett’s constitutional rights. Clement Sankat
Professor Clement Sankat is parting ways with the University of Belize after holding the post as president for the past four years. It has been confirmed that a settlement was made between Sankat and the university and so he demits office on July thirtieth. The decision was taken back in May of this year at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the university. Chairman Anthony Sylvestre says the separation is mutual.
Anthony Sylvestre, Chairman, UB Board of Trustees
“There was a mutual agreement between Professor Sankat and the board and I can confirm and I can say unequivocally that as it relates to the settlement with Professor Sankat and the university that one can certainly be rest assured that the university has not been put to any undue or additional expense so I would characterise it that way.”

The warrant meant that she would be automatically transported to the Belize Central Prison if she could not make a payment. Ferguson began to have breathing complications, but it is alleged the officers ignored her plea for medical assistance.
