Boys & Girls Club Branch Closes Due To Virus Outbreak

A north Phoenix branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs has closed its doors for the rest of July after seeing a drastic increase in positive COVID-19 cases. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale is reporting more than 30 positive cases among staff and club members as of Friday morning, and that number is expected to continue growing as more families test their children for the virus. A club spokesperson says masks are required for employees who haven’t been fully vaccinated, as well as all children at the branch near 40th Street and Pinnacle Peak Road. The club was sanitized by an independent cleaning service this week, and all branch employees are undergoing required COVID-19 testing.

View Comments A north Phoenix branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs closed its doors Wednesday through the remainder of July after seeing a drastic increase in positive COVID-19 cases.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale reported more than 20 positive cases of COVID-19 this week at its Vestar branch, located near 40th Street and Pinnacle Peak Road in Phoenix, according to a spokesperson.  The first two cases were reported on Monday and additional positive tests filtered in as staff alerted club members on Tuesday morning, according to the spokesperson of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. As of Thursday afternoon, more than 20 positive cases were confirmed among staff and club members.

Ten club members and seven staff members recently tested positive for the virus at the Vestar branch near Lockwood and Cashman drives in Desert Ridge, according to the organization. A club spokesperson didn’t say if all the people who tested positive were at a single event or when people may have been exposed. The Boys & Girls Club is a national organization that provides volunteer programs for younger people.
