A north Cumbrian serial fundraiser has received royal recognition for his recent work. Cameron Stewart from Penrith helped to raise over 3000 cards for NHS staff across north Cumbria in April this year. Cameron, 21, encouraged members of the public to send in Easter cards and cards of thanks, which were then delivered to former North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) NHS Trust Chief Nurse, Anna Stabler, for distribution. Cameron has now received a letter from the Queen s Lady in Waiting, Annabelle Whitehead, in recognition of his work. The letter read: The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter in which you tell Her Majesty about the second campaign you set up to give a token of thanks to the National Health Service in Cumbria for the tireless work they have done, and continue to do, within the local community.

NHS Digital data shows the equivalent of 83,056 full-time staff days were lost due to sickness at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust between March and December 2020. Around a tenth of these (8,566) were because of Covid-19, with staff worst affected towards the beginning of the pandemic. The figures show that millions of days of work were lost nationally. Deputy chairman of the British Medical Association, Dr David Wrigley, said: We know the NHS went into the pandemic woefully short on staff and these worrying figures highlight how Covid-19 has made a severe workforce shortage even more desperate.

More than £18k for Cumbrian NHS trust – thanks to Ian s funky fundraiser

One dedicated man has played his part for the community, raising more than £18,000 for a Cumbrian NHS trust – with some very funky fundraising methods. Event organiser Ian Milburn kept everyone entertained during lockdown with his virtual singing, dancing and bingo events, keeping spirits up while nobody could attend concerts or comedy shows in-person. People across the county signed up to take part in the fun-filled events, and businesses donated bingo prizes for all to enjoy. But the Carlisle man wasn’t done yet, and instead donned a range of costumes and wigs, teaming up with his wife, Steph, to continue bringing endless joy throughout the city with his virtual events.
