Owen Steenberg (23) appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Thursday.
He allegedly murdered Charne Viljoen earlier this month.
Steenberg will remain behind bars after opting to not go ahead with his quest for bail.
The case was remanded on Thursday in the Atlantis Magistrates Court for further investigation.
Steenberg is expected back in the dock on 25 June.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has bemoaned what it claims is misinformation being spread, in the wake of its Table View ward councillor Nora Grose being charged for fraud and money laundering to the tune of R170 000.
This is in relation to funds from the COVID-19 Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS), which the Hawks allege that Grose siphoned. She handed herself over to the Hawks at the Atlantis SAPS Community Centre and was granted bail of R10 000 in the Atlantis Magistrates Court.

CAPE TOWN - A Cape Town ward councillor has been charged in connection with COVID-19 corruption relating to funds earmarked for food parcels.
Nora Grose (64) handed herself over to the Hawks at the Atlantis SAPS Community Centre and was granted bail of R10,000 in the Atlantis Magistrates Court.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) member from Table View was charged with fraud and money laundering involving R170,000 in humanitarian funds.

Cape Town - A Table View DA councillor who appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on charges of fraud and money laundering was released on on R10 000 bail.
Nora Groseâs next court appearance is scheduled for June 21.
According to the Hawks, Grose allegedly facilitated the siphoning of Covid-19 relief funds from the City.
An amount of R170 000 was channelled to an Atlantis based organisation called the South African Religious Civic Organisation (SARCO)
The money was in turn channelled to a church in Table View with links to some city officials, Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said.

CAPE TOWN - The case against alleged abalone smugglers arrested in a R9.9 million bust has been remanded for a week.
The matter resumes on 26 May.
The bust was executed by police, the Hawks and fisheries officials.
Officials stopped two vehicles and found 70 boxes containing more than 23,000 units of dried abalone.
