(TNN) - Fort Sill held a Retreat and Welcome Ceremony at the Old Post Quadrangle Wednesday to bid farewell to two Post leaders and welcome a new face. Two outgoing Brigadier Generals, National Guard Air Defense Artillery Commandant Frank Rice and Field Artillery Commandant Phil Brooks, were honored during the ceremony. Brigadier General Thomas Moore, who will be taking over for Rice as National Guard Air Defense Artillery Commandant, was also welcomed.

(TNN) - After six years with the soldiers at Fort Sill, Big Deuce the seventh, Fort Sill’s mascot donkey, is retiring. Captain Marc Mcmenamin says Fort Sill is the only active duty military base in the nation with a live mascot and that the donkey’s are kept mostly to remind the soldiers and public alike about the 22 filed artillery unit that used mules to haul guns, move ammunition and carry soldiers from the phillippine islands to the jungles of panama in 1918.

(TNN) - Fort Sill is honoring the Days of Remembrance Observance. Guest speaker Ms. Marija Fine was welcomed onto post Thursday. She spoke about her experience as a Latvian prisoner of War in German concentration camps during World War Two as well as her journey to rediscover her roots afterward. “I don’t know what that says about the memory of children that are so young and grow up in a war zone area. Because I guess a way of protecting yourself is to blot out whatever those memories are,” Ms. Fine said.
