The Vancouver Whitecaps have bolstered their backline with the signing of Angolan international right back Bruno Gaspar. Gaspar, 27, joins from Portuguese giants Sporting CP on a loan deal with the option to buy.
Career Summary:
Gaspar began his career with Benfica but moved to Vitória Guimarães before making an appearance for their first team. With Vitória Gaspar established himself as a regular starter, making 80 first team appearances. He was then signed by Fiorentina for a 4.4 million transfer fee. He played one season for Fiorentina, making 17 appearances, before moving back to Portugal to sign with Sporting. He was a rotational option for Sporting, making 30 appearances in 18/19, and was then loaned to Olympiakos of the Greek Super League the following season.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are keeping with tradition.
The team unveiled its new uniform for the 2021 season, choosing to keep the slick hoop design that has been popular with fans, and is also a nod to their 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl championship team.
The Whitecaps brought back the hoop design two years ago, for the 40th anniversary of the championship. MLS uniforms have a two-year lifespan, with teams debuting either a new home or away jersey each year, but instead of going in a new direction this year, they’ve decided to tweak the classic look instead.
The new jersey features a blue hoop cut and sewn onto the front, not all the way around the back of the jersey like the previous version. This version also has a round neck instead of a collar, and blue hoops around the sleeves.

It is the official first day of pre-season for the Vancouver Whitecaps. This means it is the first day you are allowed to be concerned about their roster construction. Not panicked, mind you, plenty of high impact players have been signed in MLS after their team started training camp. However this is the first point when not having all of the pieces together yet might actually have a negative impact on the season. So, let’s have a look at where things stand.
First a quick review of last season. The Whitecaps came out in pre-season and the two pre-covid regular season games with a 4-4-2 system. This 4-4-2 turned into a 3-3-1-3 when in possession with heavy emphasis on attacking down the left wing and the left sided winger cutting inside to create a channel for the attacking left full back. The second striker would drop deeper and act as a pivot point for the attack, distributing the ball to the front three.
